QS:Gen is a competitive browser-based space strategy and combat style game. No downloads are required to play. Players aim to upgrade their fleets of mining and war vessels, support their planets, and produce fighters all in order to defeat enemy clans, and fractions, of other players.

 
 
 
Bug Hunting

BugsI'm currently hunting for a few major bugs. I'd like to gather all info about bugs that may greatly disrupt a game. A few of the bugs i'm trying to gather info for, are, the planet resource bug, the bug that allows you to control someone else's ships, or a similar bug, and any other major ones. Any info given to me will help me fix these bugs.

The current bug i'm trying to fix, is the planet bug. Currently, I know where the bug is in the code, but I can only limit it to a few lines of code. Unless someone can give me some exact info on how to replicate this bug, I can only guess what is causing it, with no way of verifying it. If I can't find any info about this bug, i'll have to use my backup plan, which is to make that anyone using this bug, will find their planet blown up automatically, which won't be fun for anyone, including anyone setting this bug off accidentally.

So, I would greatly appreciate it if everyone could give me their info on any known bugs, and help me collect a list of known bugs. I will shortly create an area in the forum, for anyone to post about bugs.

More bugging!

BugsGuess what! alot more bugs have been fixed!

bugs such as the planet resource bug, the bomb bug(bombs used when ship attacks are off), a few messaging bugs, SPEED ATTACKS, and more.

but, i'm still looking for more bugs to fix. when i have gotten all the common bugs, or atleast most of them, i'll finish up on the beta server, and make a new release, and update the main game server.

i encourage everyone to post about bugs they know about on the bugs section on the forum.

Beta server up!

Game AnnouncementsI've added the link to the beta server. Everything looks fine, and works for me.
THE LINK IS IN THE LEFT HAND MENU!

On other news, I need a game admin!
If you'd like to apply to be an admin of your very own beta game, please message me, and tell me why you think you can be one.

I'm looking for people who has plenty of experience, and can handle constant changes, and sudden bug outbreaks.

The more you qualify for that, the more of a chance you'll be accepted.

Current game admins of the main server can also admin there, with the extra requirement that they can handle both games,

aditionaly, any inactive main server games will be deleted soon. If your admining a game, message me, so I won't delete your game.

Both the deletion and the choosing of the admin will happen on this Wednesday.

Last thing... I'm currently fixing a few bugs, that will be uploaded to the beta server soon. As soon as I have made them, and changed the ships around, I'll try to update the main server as well.

Beta Server

Game AnnouncementsGood News! The beta server has finally been set up, and appears to be in working condition. The only thing left to be done, is confirming weather the maints are working and are set up right. After that has been done, A link to the beta server will be posted here.

But please do note, it is a beta server, meaning that certain changes and/or features are in a testing stage. Once they are confirmed to work, they will get transplanted to the main server eventually, and a game release may or may not be made.

On other news, you may see some weird changes on how the game works, some minor, some major. I'll be beginning a process soon, that might purge alot of bugs from the game.

Anyways, I thank you all for taking your time to read this,
And I hope you enjoy playing this game.

Bug Fix!

BugsA BugFix has been performed on the main game server!

The bug, to where a user signing up, and not receiving a ship, and not being able to play, or do anything at all, has been fixed. The bug simply made a player not receive a starting ship, and caused all joining players after them to get the bug as well. This bug caused a whole game to malfunction, even after a full game reset has been made.

Well, one part of the bug has been fixed, so that all games work again. BUT, the part that causes this to happen the first time around, has not been found, and thus, this bug can re-occur. If it does, contact me, if you do not wish to reset your game. Otherwise, try a full-game reset, and see if that fixes it.

Right now, i'm creating a package of bug fixes for the main server. When I have applied this bug fix package to the main server, it will fix a few things. One of them, will cause that resetting a game will fix some bugs, such as the no-ship bug. Some of the bug-fixes will go un-noticed, unless you a cheater. One bug fix, is a new admin variable, called speed attacking, if set to off, speed attack won't work anymore!

Also, if any admins know of any major bugs that needs to be fixed on their games, notify me.

The other thing also, is, that i'll be getting my beta server up either tomorrow, or sometime this weekend. Once I have it up, i'll try to get a few bugs fixed, before I upgrade the main server. One of the bugs I will try to fix, is the planet bug. So, please be patient with me, as I get this done slowly.

Now the other thing, if i'm ever un-contactable for a short period, or long period of time, it either means, my comcast internet is down, either because of their crappy service... or I blew up my comcast internet hub thing, with a shotgun(or turned it into a micro-bomb) in frustration, or my life of a straight A student is now demanding alot of time from me(yea, all A's), or, my laptop is broken, or so on and so on. Please do be aware that things do happen, and I don't really get paid to work on QS, so no more hatemail, it gets really annoying, and disgusting.

Change is in prgress

NewsGuess what! I'm currently uploading my new beta server, and configuring a few things. Once i'm done with that, and i have gotten the crons back up, i'll have a beta server up, and a wiki, for an advanced install/game help guide. After that, i'll begin fixing the main game server. Once that is done, i'll see what games has willing admins still, and which don't. When i've figured out what games don't have admins, i'll start assigning new admins to those games.

So, in other words, keep in touch!

Also, for the games currently working on the main server, the crons are down, which mean the maints won't be running any time soon. I suggest the existing admins(if any) there go and pause their games.

Great news of Great Change!!!

NewsTo all qs gamers still playing.

This weekend, there is a high possibility of the server being down.
During this down time, some things will be rearranged. One good thing coming out of this, is the main game server will be fixed!
Another good thing, might also be, a beta server, that will contain the recent(but unstable) qs version. When the beta server has had enough bugs fixed,
a new release will be out, and the main server will be updated.

Also, in the long term future, there might be a 70% chance of a new BRANCH of qs. Currently, it is being developed by me, :D, and might be released by next year!
Maby, it might get out even before AF gets out, lol. I expect a beta around Christmas(give, or take any amount of days, might even be around thanksgiving),
and the first release around the 4th of july. But this is if life treats me well, and if I accept, and anyone volunteers time to help develop the game after i have gotten all the ideas sold, well worked out, and the game has been developed enough.
If things go as planned, this new branch of qs, will make qs:g seem like a gameboy color compared to a DSlite. So effectively, it will replace qs:g, unless someone can get rid of all the bugs, and make some major changes, and spring cleaning in the code.

Also, sometime soon, the forum will be cleaned up of all irrelevant posts, and a restructure will take place. If we're luck, we can get a whole wiki(or something) set up for players, so that they can learn to play the game, and those who desire, install a server, on a quality host.
In the future, expect to see contests, to see who can build better stylesheets(for themes), races, and ships.

Beta Server

Game AnnouncementsAs Many of you may know,
I have a beta server Here.

I also have a Main Server, which will be open to be played on,
once i have uploaded work onto it.

In a few hours from now, i will update my beta server with a better version of QS.
once it is updated, i will work on creating a ship editor, fix some bugs, and of course,
finish up any places i missed with the race editor.

This race editor, will be a big excitement to all admins. It can create/delete/edit races!
If you create a race, you can choose its Home system, its name, and a few other minor things. The same, when you change an existing race. Imagine having Sol moved to a different system! When moving a race, the homeworld, the port, and the observatory will follow as well.

Admins will also find they'll have a few extra tools for them.

Though, as soon as i have fixed a large amount of bugs, and added a ship editor,
and fixed anything i have missed from the race editor, i will upload everything to my main server. after it has been on my main server for quite some time, i will release a new version of qsg to the public.

once i have uploaded qs to my main server though, i will ask about three people to admin for me there. please keep in mind, that if you want to be admin, you would need to make yourself well known to me first.

Returning from the lost depths

NewsAs I'm sure many of you are aware things have been a little quiet around here for a little while.

This is due primarily to real life dragging the developers (including myself) away from QS temporarily. I make no apologies for this as with all things net-side real life has to come first ;)

This post is really just to bring everyone up-to-speed on what we have planned and where we stand at present.

[b]Short Term Plans[/b]
This section primarily contains bug-fixes with an eventual point release to resolve them. There is no set time-frame at present but I am hoping no more than 2-3 weeks.. no promises :P

Also in this section comes some new articles I have been putting together detailing various methods of installing the game and things to check before install etc.

[b]Mid-range Plans[/b]
We are still working towards a new mid-level beta release (0.8 possibly) to introduce a substantial number of new features aimed at making the game more customizable in terms of gameplay (i.e. game admin ship/races/upgrades editors, revamped admin variables, etc) as well as Fransies new clan and player relations system stage 1.

[b]Long-term plans[/b]
This section is still under discussion amongst the developers but includes such things as removing third-party libraries (i.e. ADOdb, Smarty, etc) as well as re-coding certain areas like database interaction to be more useful and less bug-prone.

Please continue to post suggestions and bug-reports. They are looked at and discussed :) Bugs will get fixed. Just please remember that the developers working on this project do so for free and in their spare time. Real life must always come first. :)

New site!

Well, we finally have the new site up and running for QS and it has some nifty new features too.


  • Web-Links - Users can submit links to their servers, etc. Please allow 24 hours for links to be validated by an admin before tehy will appear

  • Downloads - If anyone has any QS related downloads, let us know and we may host them here :)



In addition I'd like to see some new themes being made in the community for the game. The current two are getting a little old and I'm sure we have some budding talent out there. Come on... let's make this a real open source community!

If any themes are created I'll enable theme authors to publish their themes on this site as well as having a gallery to showcase

This new site marks the start of a new era for QS development. The 0.7.x series of releases were primarily to fix bugs and make a few minor enhancements to the original user interface for both users and game admins.

Now we start working on the next major version of Quantum Star (sub-name yet to be decided) and there is much to do.
